Anti-EV FUD

This supplied to me by a relative:

 Descriptions were "Smart Guy!", "Genius"

Of course, hauling around a gasoline powered generator is about the stupidest thing an EV driver could do, especially a Tesla where good, fast, cheap, and safe charging opportunities now abound.

  1. Anyone this stupid should not be allowed to drive ANYTHING. He probably can't understand road signs.

  2. Of more importance are the people that post such things with the labels cited. They are attempting to sway general public opinion using not logic but nonsense.

  3. Also, the idiot will probably start a fire with the gas and the report will be that a Tesla burned. Musk should take this car back before it becomes bad news for the company.

  4. That whole thing is "phony Baloney". Notice the generator running in the ECO mode (at an idle), and when he plugs the cable into the car, the generator doesn't do anything except idle. That inverter generator has a computer-controlled throttle, and when it is given a load, the throttle will increase the speed of the motor to match the power required. His generator did nothing, did not rev up, and if you could see the control panel, it is undoubtedly showing "FAULT". One solution is to install a resistor at the plug between the black wire and ground. (Do it in a separate power cord plugged into the other outlet.)

  5. I replied to the guy that sent me the video detailing the insanity of trying to use a ~1.5kw power source to significantly add to charge. It would do so but at about 3mph.

  6. In my comment dated Nov. 3, I wrote "black wire and ground", when I should have written "Neutral and Ground". most of these small generators/inverters uses a "floating neutral," the Model S charger will not work with this generator if connected normally. However, if you short the neutral and ground wires together in the SECOND outlet, using a homemade "pigtail" with the white and green wires connected to each other, the Tesla charger appears to work OK. In my WEN Inverter Generator, I used a small 150K ohm resistor in an outlet plugged into the second 120 vac location. (Instead of using the short circuit.) The problem with gasoline generators is the fuel plugging up the little jets in the carburetors if they are not used fairly often. One way to keep them ready is to charge the car for about 30 minutes at least twice a month. Otherwise, it won't run when you really need some emergency power.
