Tesla/Musk

I've been preserving a few Tesla history tabs in my browser and have decided it is time to delete the tabs.  I preserve the URLs here.

Both Tesla and Elon Musk seem under appreciated.  Especially by speculators/investors.  I offer this to show how well Tesla/Musk have followed, WILDLY successfully, plans.

https://www.tesla.com/blog/secret-tesla-motors-master-plan-just-between-you-and-me

https://www.tesla.com/blog/master-plan-part-deux

I haven't found "master plan part 3" in the blog above.  There are media mentions, though:

https://investorplace.com/2022/06/tesla-master-plan-part-3-elon-musk-finally-reveals-long-awaited-details/

The above meant to illustrate the success story that seems mostly ignored by current media and the investing community.

Old Munro YouTube reviisited

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g63SJwFdGTQ&t=2178s

Old but even more relevant than when recorded.  It seems Munro was as pissed off as I was when Biden and Barra went on TV and exposed the dishonesty of both.  SURELY it was dishonesty rather than stupidity?  Who could be THAT stupid?  I've been surprised that videos of that "press conference" are so hard to find.  If you find a full video, please post in comments.

Munro makes the point that the Biden/Barra prevarications are "stolen valor".

Here is another posting from after Biden/Barra exposed their prevarication inclinations:

Lastly, here is my first post on the topic from July 22:

TSLA recommended viewing

 https://insideevs.com/news/602684/tesla-stockholders-meeting-cyber-roundup-takeaways/

I'm viewing mainly to see what so many investors found so alarming in the share holder meeting of last night. (8/4/2022).  I failed utterly.

OTOH, there are MANY tidbits that the poorly educated might benefit from.  These are the anti Tesla/Musk topics so often mentioned in the main stream media.  That is, the media that is supported by oil company and major car company advertising.

Stupid (or dishonest) politicians.

GM should be famous for their successful efforts to postpone the EV revolution.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_encumbrance_of_large_automotive_NiMH_batteries

The early part of the story is well told through the documentary video:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car%3F

The main weakness of the documentary is that the players are not well explained.  Though the above wikipedia article does well describe the players.  It may be best to have the wikipedia article before you when viewing the video.  I maintain a stock of the DVDs; ask, if you wish to view.

A synopsis:

Under California government pressure, GM introduced a very good EV, the "EV1".  They, and other automakers, successfully brought change in the California "zero emission" rules which resulted in GM taking back all leased EV1s and crushing them.  MUCH more egregious was GM's suppression of the NiMH cell chemistry for EV use.  The EV revolution was postponed for about 10 years due to that chemistry being unavailable for EV use.

The REAL story, as opposed to the Biden's version:

The EV revolution, now well underway, was brought about SOLELY by Tesla with much opposition from the major automakers.  Until only very recently, the majors seemed not to realize that they are headed toward bankruptcy.   The EV/Tesla opposition has been insidious and aided by mainstream media which takes every opportunity to "muddy the water", misrepresent, obscure and prevaricate.  The clear (to me) bias is almost certainly due to the big advertising dollars that both automakers and big oil spend while Tesla spends ZERO on advertising.

This story offers quite a bit of support to my view:

SuperCharger Service in Columbus

Approaching the Columbus SuperCharger, I thought it had been ICEed by a monster Ford pickup truck.  But, no, it was a Tesla Energy guy doing some service.  A very nice and loquacious guy.  Works out of Houston but sometimes covers SuperChargers across the USA.   Some of his tales:

1) Power cables get swapped out regularly.  See new cables hanging on the right side of the truck.  The connectors do get worn out in normal use.

2) The guy allows that Tesla drivers, in general, are pretty nice.  He has been "cussed out" only twice.  One was a S Plaid driver that took exception to having his charge necessarily temporarily interrupted.  The repair guy was informed that he was fired by the disgruntled Plaid driver.  Though the Plaid guy was not a Tesla employee.

3) A Tesla employee was fired after visiting Boca Chica and taking (and distributing on FaceBook) some photos taken from the wrong side of the property line.  The Tesla employee was "off the clock" and visiting Boca Chica for his own edification.  Much as I have done.

4) The rentacops that SpaceX has been using at Boca Chica have been causing SpaceX some trouble.  They have been denying public access to public roads.  I think I was turned back there by a rentacop while on a public road.

5) A common act of vandalism is stuffing something in the SuperCharger connector wells.  So that the "nozzle" can not be properly mated to the car.  The guy reported that, in most cases, he can just dig out the foreign material.  I've encountered such vandalized nozzles but did not try to do the digging myself.  Next time, I'll give it a try.  Understanding that the connectors are not hot until properly connected to the car.  Dental or lock picks seem like ideal tools.

6) He reports that, in California, repair folks such as himself, may be given Model Xs for their work.  For a while he had a Model Y but expressed a preference for a ICE pickup.  I imagine the Xs and Ys driven by Tesla Energy people are not allowed to accumulate many miles and are sold at a modest discount as "demos".  Just like "loaners" offered to customers having repair work done.

7) The guy reported a problem he had witnessed near Houston where a big utility scale battery was being installed.  The problem: when multiple chargers/inverters are being used, it is important to see that the two split-phase legs go to the same places on individual devices.  For instance, I now see I probably crossed them between the old PW battery and the new battery I am attempting to install.

I believe I've seen a Tesla service person at only one other SuperCharger.  In Cheyenne 6-8 years ago.  That guy had flown into Denver, rented a small ICE car, and driven the ~100 miles to Cheyenne.

Old photo of 13S85 lives on

 https://insideevs.com/news/526525/gas-car-sales-already-peaked/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-news

Photo was taken early at Columbus before the ribbon cutting ceremony got under way.  Maybe late 2013.  I had arrived early for the event and was getting a little charging done before the crowd arrived.  I noticed a professional looking photographer roaming around but was unaware the photo had been taken.  The photo has long been used on the Tesla site.  I believe Columbus was the 2nd Texas SuperCharger after San Marcos.  Opening of Texas SuperChargers was a big deal.  At the time I bought the car, ordered December 2012 and delivered about April 2013, I did not expect the SuperCharger network to ever reach Texas.  At the time, they were going in on both east and west coasts.  For a long while, Texas was isolated with only five SuperChargers: San Marcos, Belmead, Corsicana, Huntsville, and Columbus.  To get to other SuperChargers, one had to do some slow charging along the way.  During that period, I made a trip to Wisconsin and had to do about 4 RV park charges between Corisicana and Normal IL.  A real adventure!  I pulled a teardrop trailer back from Wisconsin and learned that the trailer reduced range by about 1/4-1/3.

The custodian of 13S85 claims it looks much the same with 145k miles.

Being uncertain of Tesla's future in that 2013 era, I decided that the TSLA stock I bought for about $40 should be sold for about $80.  After a 5 for 1 split, those shares are worth around $5M in 2022.  I had to buy my stock back in the $120-$180 range around 2014.

Maybe I dig out a video of the arrival of the car at my place and post here.

A note on naming.  "13S85" was my first. A 2013 Model S85.   A 2017 S100D became my 2nd, "17S100D".  My current 3 is "18M3PD".  Except for my first Model 3, which has been sold, all have free SuperCharging.
