This "New" Garage was built in about 1978 at a cost of about $4k. "New" because it supplemented an older garage circa 1940. Roof was poorly done and leaked at the juncture of the two slopes. Now, it needs a new roof and the rotting wood replaced. Cost? ~$10k. The new roof may be a candidate for a PV install. The building has become of increasing interest to me because it is the electric connection point for all the new PV I've been installing.

Any more done on the roof? I don't see new pictures today but the previous ones look like it will be a great roof when finished.
ReplyDeleteLooks really nice (and I have seen the almost finished roof). When we had some repairs done to our Morton Building, I was almost paralyzed by the high cost, but we are very satisfied with the outcome. Part of the high cost was moving scissors jacks, tractors, dumpsters, and Porta-potties onto the property. I noticed the skylights in the roof last weekend. I don't remember seeing transparent panels in the old roof. Anyhow, looks very nice. There were a pair of new brooms sitting under the roof, too. Are they your brooms?
ReplyDeleteI'll try to remember to post some "after" photos. I think I can add them to the above album.
DeleteThe old roof had fiberglass skylights, same short life material as the greenhouse section. To facilitate PV installing, I omitted them on the south side of the new roof and put them only in the north side.
The north shed roof is sagging apparently due to sinking of one or more poles in wetter soil. Haven't decided what, if anything, to do about that.
The larger steel roof on the house cost $5k but that, too, was 30+ years ago; though not as long ago as the $4k new garage.
This is my first time i visit here. I found so many entertaining stuff in your blog, especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the leisure here! Keep up the good work. I have been meaning to write something like this on my website and you have given me an idea. roofing company
